SPOUSES & PARTNERS VISAS

Spouse Visas

The Spouse Visa is an application for non-EEA nationals, who are married to spouses who are either British citizens or have settled status in the UK to join their spouses in the UK.

To apply you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • You will need to show that you satisfy the financial requirement.
  • You will need to provide evidence that you and your spouse are in a genuine and subsisting relationship.
  • You will need to provide evidence that the spouse in the UK has adequate accommodation.
  • You will need to have the required level of English Language.

Once the spouse visa is granted you will be allowed to work in the UK and travel freely in out of the UK.

Partners Visas

Unmarried partners or same-sex relationships can apply for a visa to join their partner if their partner is either a British citizen or has Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.
Your unmarried or same-sex partner may come with you to the UK, or join you here, if you:

  • Currently live in the UK; or
  • If you are returning to the UK with him/her to live permanently in the UK.
  • You will need to show that you satisfy the financial requirement.
  • You will need to provide evidence that you and your partner are in a genuine and subsisting relationship for at least 2 years.

The relationship may be a heterosexual or same-sex relationship, but you must not be related by blood, i.e. you cannot be cousins, etc.

Once the visa is granted you will be allowed to work in the UK and travel freely in out of the UK.

The visa will eventually lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain and a British citizenship.
